Many businesses use brochure printing as an effective way to get the word out about the company or a new product. If you've decided to use brochures as part of your marketing campaign, you have some research to do and decisions to make.

Research your audience. Who do you have in mind as you're creating your brochures? What is your demographic? Keep your target market in mind so that you use words and images that will appeal to them. What are the needs of your audience? Your brochure or flyer copy should tell readers what benefits you can give them.

More research: what brochure printing company should you use? You can research on the Internet or through the phone book as well as visit some companies to see samples of their work. You should choose a company that has experience printing brochures so that they can help you with any printing problems or help you come up with creative brochure ideas. Ask to see samples of past work and gather quotes from many different companies before you choose.

What is your brochure's purpose? You need to decide what you want to say before you can decide how you want to say it. Your purpose will affect the tone and feel of the flyer design. Are you trying to get the word out about a new product or are you introducing your company?

Decide on the kind of paper you want to use. You wouldn't believe how many different options you have when it comes to a paper's thickness. Paper is measured by weight – the higher the weight, the thicker the paper. Most flyers are printed on 80 lb. stock or 100 lb. stock. Opt for the thickest paper your budget can handle so that you create a strong, professional first impression.

Decide on colors. You'll also need to decide on the color of the paper and the color of ink used. Printing on colored paper can really draw your flyer out from the crowd, but make sure the color doesn't interfere with any of your graphic or image colors. A glossy finish will make your brochures and flyers look slick. A flat finish won't look slick, but you won't have to worry about catching any glare from the sun either.

Choose your paper size. Do you want to go with traditional 8.5-x-11-inch sized paper, or go with a bigger size, like 11 x 17? The bigger size will cost more, but will also attract more attention.

Use one or more headlines. If your flyer will have more than a few words on it, you should use headlines to grab people's attention. Make the headlines a bigger size, a different color, or perhaps a different, complementary font, and be sure to tout your benefits in the headlines. People will skim the headlines to decide if they want to read the rest of your copy so be sure your headlines pull them in.
