Canvas printing is becoming a fast and everybody can do it type of business. The problem with that is, wide format or digital printers are use to printing banners and posters, they do not specialize in true color or colour management and true photographic canvas printing.

We printed on over 300 canvas substrates from all over the world before we settled on our canvas that we still use and have used for over 4 years, the canvas is a 100% cotton canvas with a 100% pure true white coating with a perfect ink receptive coating to give the best giclee quality finish. One thing you need to make sure when you are choosing a canvas or a canvas printing company that the folds on the corners don’t crack this can be one of the most frustrating things about cheep canvases.

The next thing you need to look for is cheap canvas frames, a lot of our competitors use fur light wood stretcher bars imported from China. There is nothing wrong with these frames apart from you are stuck to the sizes they offer, we prefer and this is a personal opinion and the longest way around, we print the canvas first, measure the print individually and then make a handmade had crafted frame to fit the print. All our stretcher bars are made from kiln dried Scandinavian Pine.
Sagging prints can also be a problem when buying prints from a non experienced canvas print company, you can stretch canvases by hand, and we did for the first two years of our canvas printing career.

We now stretch canvas on a bespoke canvas wrapping machines (hydraulic), we can set the psi (pound Per Square Inch) normally this is set between 75-100 depending on the climate and the type of canvas being used. This gives that drum like finish that you would expect from a true canvas print.

All canvas should be finished on the pack using 12mm x 12mm staples they should be set no more than ¾ of an inch apart. The staples and the trimmed canvas should be cover with a nice brown framing tape. We use a satin smooth framing tape it cuts and folds beautiful.

All canvas should be bubble wrapped and then put into a box perfect size for the digital canvas, I recommend putting 2 extra layers of twin walled cardboard on the front of the canvas to give extra protection to the face of the canvas as it is being shipped. In 5 years we have only had 3 canvases returned.
