Change

Change” is one topic, which has been extensively discussed in various forums. It is said, there is one thing that does not change – “Change” itself. This statement now needs to be changed. For, the rate of change has tremendously changed in the last few years. Question arises: what does that idea mean and how do we apply it in our particular situation to avoid pitfalls and reap benefits. At the moment, it is important to apply ideas related to “change”.

The customer in India has now has started relishing the possibilities of making choices. Customers demand what was denied to them for fifty + years. This itself is a big change and needs to seriously taken by an enterprise. Also, the information is now available at the press of a key. The Entrepreneurs and owners of the business have to now anticipate and work for managing the change. Adaptation is not enough now. In an experiment a frog was put in a jar with water. The temperature of water was gradually raised. The frog adjusted each time the heat was put on. A time came that it had no choice but to meet with the death- popularly called “Boiled Frog Syndrome”.

Ancient wisdom say’s,” If you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always gotten”. In view of the tremendous increase in the rate of change today, I opine,” If you do what you have always done, you will even not get what you have gotten”. For getting the same results too, we have to do differently.

Applying this idea, can we prepare a list of changes we anticipate in the business or its environment? Can we also list a set of actions that we can take to meet with the challenges? Globalization is throwing stones. To convert this into stepping –stones or consider them as roadblocks depends on us. I believe, Indian enterprise has the capability to spot opportunities in crises.
