Trying to get back together with your ex when you live a long distance from each other can be a daunting task. Fortunately, there are things you can do to ensure that you both get back together and have a great and lasting relationship after doing so.

The first thing you need to do is think about your particular situation. Have you always had a long distance relationship? Did the relationship ever work in that capacity? Or, is the distance more recent, and is what caused the two of you to break up? Perhaps it was the case that you broke up, and that person moved away from you.

What Situation Are You In?

Every situation is truly different, and you need to apply what you learn here to fit your needs. If you've always lived apart this can be tricky. Perhaps you never had time to form those important bonds, or you had unrealistic expectations of what the other person was really like. There is truly something special about being with the person you love, and always having had a long-distance relationship can make that hard. Of course it's not impossible, however, it could mean you need to give a little bit more at your end to make it happen.

If your love recently moved away, and then you broke up, you need to think about what the cause actually was. Was it that one or both of you thought the distance would be too hard so you didn't try to make it work? On the other hand, did they find someone else with the good old out of mind out of sight mentality? If you never really tried to make it work long-distance, realize that it is possible. It is difficult, but with a little bit of work you can win back your ex and make the relationship stronger.

If you broke up and the person moved away from you to distance themselves, think about the real reason for your breakup. Perhaps they just need some space, and they will be ready to live closer to you again in the future. Perhaps this distance is not really that far away, it's just not what you're used to. In any case, think about your circumstances and what you can do to improve them.

What State is Your Relationship in Right Now?

After you've thought about what caused the breakup, and whether the long-distance move was recent or has been part of your situation for a while, you need to think about where the two of you are in the relationship right now.

Long Distance Communication

Thankfully, the Internet makes it easier than ever these days to stay in contact. You have phone communication, e-mail, Facebook, text messages, and many other ways to contact each other. You certainly shouldn't plan a trip out there and surprise your love at this point in time, as that can be a very uncomfortable situation. However, after enough time has passed, you can certainly send them a friendly message to start those feelings up again.

You have to deal with this long distance communication exactly as you would if they were standing in front of you right now. Friendly and open communication is key.

When the time is right, phone communication is going to be your best bet. That's because hearing your voice will bring back a flood of memories for your ex. It's sometimes hard to stay connected when you only communicate via email, however it's even more difficult with the telephone!
